And just to name a few:

The Derby

Best known as the birthplace for the resurgence of swing music, the Derby is still a charming place to catch old-school swing and rockabilly acts. Die-hard swing fans share space with first-timers lured by multiple viewings of "Swingers." The cocktail waitresses and bartenders are affable, even on the most chaotic nights, and the velvet walls and curtained booths are luscious reminders of bygone Hollywood glam.

LAX

Having sizzled in the late '90s as the club that helped instigate Hollywood's nightlife comeback, Las Palmas has been resurrected with the help of Adam Goldstein. Also known as DJ AM, this is his first nightclub after years of playing celebrity functions ranging frm DiCaprio birthday parties to Bolthouse events at Avalon and Concorde. Gone is the Spanish flair and in its place comes a streamline space of neon windows, circular VIP booths and LAX-inspired architecture.

The Larchmont

Compared to Hollywood hot spots like Ivar and White Lotus, Larchmont is more bland than grand in design, yet still manages to find a niche in the prodigious L.A. nightlife scene. Last known as rock dive Martini Lounge, the club benefitted from a thoroughly modern makeover. A velvet rope separates the VIP lounge from the multileveled dance floor in the main room. You can order sushi from here or from the sushi bar in the back corner. DJs spin hip-hop and house as gyrating go-go dancers do their thing. Spotlights shine from all corners, including the square-shaped bar. Two stairways lead up to the appealing upstairs patio, where another DJ and bar create a Miami-style lounge underneath the stars.
